Hornby High School Community

  I have joined the Hornby High School Community because i love doing activities  around Hornby     High School.

We are doing Community Impact Projects. My group is the Hornby High School Community.

 I am really interested about what kind of activities we can do as a school group out of school.

 I think we can achieve this idea by coming up with different kind of sports, and games we do not play at school, and getting some people to help.

Scones

Aim: To look at different kitchen ingredients in scones and their effects

The types of recipes my group choose

1: Normal

2: Lemonade

3: Without butter

The other two recipes were:

1: Name + ingredients →Lemonade→Flour, butter, baking powder

2: Name + ingredients →No butter →Flour, milk, baking powder

Materials:

1: Plate

2: Milk

3: Cup

4: Flour

5: Spoon

6: Bowl

7: Baking Soda

Process:

1: Grab a bowl, cups/ container and spoon

2: Grab and measure your ingredients

3: Put your ingredients in the bowl

4: Mix them together

5: Knead your dough together/ shape it

6: Take your scone and put it on the tray

7: Put it in the oven.

Variables: All of the scones were cooked at 200° Celsius, they were cooked for 10 minutes

Conclusion/Reflection: The scones that my group made were hard and did not taste really good than i thought it would be. I really enjoyed making the scones but not eating it. In my opinion i really liked  the normal scones better than the other two.

                                      Eat Your Rainbows

Today For period 2 we had drama, Whaea Joanne put us into groups of four. In our groups of four we had to make a little performance about eating healthy or unhealthy food. Our group decided to do a rainbow performance where we all had to say " Eat Your Rainbows". We all moved together to get the message around....Chorus.

                              Dirty water Experiment

Aim: To make a filtration plant using household materials.

What is Filtration?

Filtration is separating solids from liquids by adding a medium through which only the liquid can pass.

Examples are:

1: Tea bags

2: Coffee Filters

3: Swimming Pool

4: Kidneys

Materials:

1: Craft Knife

2: Scissors

3:Plastic Bottle

4: Rocks

5: Sand

6: Dirty Water

7: Filter Paper

                            Process: ( use verbs or doing words in each shape)

Step 1: Cut the bottle using a craft knife and scissors

Step 2: Put the top half upside down and then put it together with the bottom half
and fold the filter paper and put in the bottle

Step 3: Add layers of sand in the filter paper and also some rocks.

Step 4: Pour dirty water into the bottle with the sand and rocks in it, the water should slowly start dripping.

Reflection: The experiment went well, the water was dripping slowly and the water was kinda clear than before

       Social Well being : Taking care of your Family& Friends 
           Spiritual Well Being : Respecting Others beliefs or culture and also their language.
           Physical Well being : Looking after yourself, for example taking a shower everyday or                         spraying deodorant on your underarms everyday.

           Emotional Well being : Learning how to control your emotions, for example if your angry or               mad, you should just calm down and breath in and out.

Salt - Sodium Chlorid

Surf - Surfing

white vinegar - Acetic Acid

Baking soda - Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate        

Cleaning - Cleanliness

Detergent - Chemical Formula

Lemonade - Cellulose

Sugar - Sucrose

Citric Acid - anhydrous

                 

Baking soda & Vinegar Experiment

Erupting volcano cake

                              ERUPTING VOLCANO CAKE

On Thursday 22nd of November Shanarnia,sierra and I made the base for the erupting volcano cake.

1st Miss Taylor searched up the ingredients and the method to make the cake, then Miss Taylor gave us the ingredients and helped us out.

We followed the method carefully because we didn't want to stuff it up. We had to pour some of the other mixture into the other one was okay but then the other one was chunky so we wanted it to be like the other one. After a long time stirring the mixture and following the method we carefully tipped the mixtures into the baking tins or whatever its called,then we baked them.
