Reflection C.I.P

Today for our CIP lessons we had to vote on what we wanted to do for our community.
Last week we went around the whole school to pick up rubbish so we can keep our community nice and tidy and also make some art out of the rubbish we collected.
So today we had to come up with some ideas we wanted to make.
First we had the H sign for our school, second we had was writing a positive message and last option we had was making a statue of a native bird.
Then we had our votes, the majority of the students voted to do the statue of a native bird.

Drama

During this week 7/8 Tz and 7/8 Sh started planning to make puppets for drama class. First we had to draw our plan on a piece of paper, i am doing an apple puppet because in drama we are learning about physical well being. I think it took me 10 minutes to draw my plan and make it look creative, then we had to get a brown paper bag and draw our plan on the paper bag so we can have paper puppet, but  apparently we didn't have enough time to draw our plan on the paper bag, so we just had to but our paper bag and our planning paper in a big grey box so we can finish it some other time when we are doing drama.

Today for drama we didn't do paper puppets because we had last week to finish it off, so we did the filming today. While Miss Tozer filmed every group with their puppets the other groups were practicing with their puppets. When it was our groups turn to film we decided to do the apples and bananas song to share a message about eating healthy. Our video only took a minute and we only had to film it once.

I really enjoyed making the puppets with my group and also doing the film

Aim: To learn about a saturated solution and how to make crystals

Definition of solution
A liquid mixture, when something is dissolved into a liquid (eg: sugar in water)

Definition of saturated
Having or holding as much as can be absorbed of something (when no more sugar or borax can be dissolved into the water)

In groups of three you will make three different types of crystals and compare the results.

Borax Crystals

Materials

1) Cup/Glass
2) Pipe cleaner
3) Borax
4) Popsicle stick
5) String
6) Warm water
7) Spoon

Process

Step 1: Grab a cup or glass
Step 2: Put three table spoons of borax and 1/2 cups of water
Step 3: Add ingredients to the cup
Step 4: Mix them together with a Popsicle stick
Step 5: Tie your string to the Popsicle stick
Step 6: Make a star with your pipe cleaner, tie this to the string
Step 7: Put your star into the borax and water solution

Sugar Crystals

Grow your own Sugar Crystals

Ratio: 1 cup sugar to 1/2 cup water
Materials

1) Sugar
2) Warm water
3) Spoon
4) Popsicle stick
5) String

Process

Step 1: Get a plastic cup or glass cup
Step 2: Put four table spoons of sugar and 1/2 cups of warm water
Step 3: Add ingredients to the cup
Step 4: Mix them together with a Popsicle stick
Step 5: When its dissolved, put four more table spoons of sugar in the cup
Step 6: Mix it again with a Popsicle stick
Step 7: Tie your string to the middle of the Popsicle stick
Step 8: Put the Popsicle stick on top of the cup and push the string into the water

Salt Crystals

Ratio: 4 Tablespoons salt to 1/2 cup water
Materials

1) Cup
2) Salt
3)  Warm Water
4) String
5) Popsicle stick

Process

Step 1: Get cup
Step 2: Put 4 tablespoons of salt in the cup.
Step 3: Put 1/2 cups of warm water in with the salt.
Step 4: Mix it with Popsicle stick until the salt dissolved.
Step 5: Tie string on the Popsicle stick.
Step 6: Put Popsicle stick in the borax and water solution.

What crystals worked out best and why?: The best crystal that worked out better was the salt crystal,

Conclusion:

After watching the videos as a class, explain how the following crystals are formed:

Type
Explanation
Salt

Sea water gets transported into ponds and gets evaporated from the sun and leaves salt

Sugar

They first chop up the sugar cane then they roll the sugar cane, then they get the juice and remove the fiber, with the juice they heat it up and it makes syrup and then they add crystallization.

Graduate profile self-assessment

At the start of the year 7/8 Tz did a graduate profile self-assessment.

There were 25 boxes with sentences written in it and we had to read

the sentences and if you think that you achieved what the sentence

says then you would put an A for achieved, but if you think no you would need

more time achieving this sentence or you have not achieved this sentence yet the

you would put an N for not yet achieved. Then after that you have to select 3 boxes

with an N in it and in the next box to the N you had to write a short sentence

about how your gonna achieve this if you haven't yet achieved it.
