What is the project?
We are just picking up rubbish and sorting rubbish and making some art out of it so that the rubbish we find can be useful and reusable.
What is the purpose?
The purpose is to give back to the community for doing things for us and also trying to keep our
community look nice and tidy.
How much rubbish do you think we are going to collect ?
It depends on how much rubbish we find
Why do you think that?
because we don't know exactly how much rubbish were gonna collect
What colours do you think we will see the most?
Maybe white, because of all the plastic bottles and different kind of colours because we might find chip packets.
What type of art would you like to create?
I would like to create a big statue that
I am a student at in Uru Mānuka. In 2020 I was a year 9 and in 2021 I will be a year 10. This is a place where I will be able to share my learning with you. Please note....some work won't be edited - just my first drafts, so there may be some surface errors. I would love your feedback, comments, thoughts and ideas.

Chromatography Experiments
Colour Experiment.
Today in science we had 2 experiments, the first one was rainbow paper, the second one was skittles and water.
Rainbow Paper
Aim: To separate colors by using the process of chromatography
Materials:.
1. Chromatography Paper
2. Felts
3. Cups
4. Water
5. Ruler
6.
Process:
Step 1: Get Chromatography paper.
Step 2: mark 2 cm from the top downwards and from the bottom 1 cm upwards.
Step 3: Draw 3 dots on the 1 cm line with green, red and black felt.
Step 4: Put the paper in the cup hanging from the 2 cm line.
Step 5: put water up to the 1 cm line.
Step 6: Watch the the end result.
Reflection: It was fun to make and it worked out great!!

Skittles:
To separate colours by using the process of chromatography
Materials;
1. Skittles
2. Water
3. Container
Process:
Step 1: Get a container
Step 2: Spread the skittles out in the container
Step 3: Put water in the container
Step 4: Watch the end result
2. Water
3. Container
Process:
Step 1: Get a container
Step 2: Spread the skittles out in the container
Step 3: Put water in the container
Step 4: Watch the end result
Findings: The colours did not mix together, they made lines in between
Reflection: I enjoyed doing the skittles experiment and the end results looked great!

Extension:
What is another experiment you could do using chromatography and how would you do it.
Title: Pop Rocks Experiment
Aim: To find out why balloons inflate when we put pop rocks in soda
Materials: Pop Rocks
Soda
Balloons
Funnel
Process:
Step 1: Place the funnel in the end of the balloon
Step 2: Empty the packet of pop rocks into the funnel
Step 3: Tap the funnel so all the pop rocks go into the balloon
Step 4: Place the balloon over the mouth of the soda bottle
Step 5: Tip the balloon up to drop the pop rocks into the bottle.
Step 6: Stand back and watch the reaction!
Why do the balloons inflate?
Because there is carbon dioxide in both the pop rocks and the soda
When the pop rocks and the soda is combined, the CO2 is released into the balloon and filling it.

(Carbon dioxide is a colorless gas with a
density about 60% higher than that of dry air)

Salt & Water Experiment
What do we need to find out?
The amount of salt that must be in water before it will not freeze when left overnight in the freezer.
How will we find it out?
Put different amount of salt in each cups.
How will we find it out?
Write it on a piece of paper/ Docs - Chromebook
What equipment do we need for the experiment?
- 3 cups, salt & water
How long will it take?
10 Minutes
The Procedure
What are the steps that you will take to make the experiment? List them in 6 steps.
1 : Get your ingredients
2: Pour different amount of salt in each cup
3: Then pour the water in the cups
4: Put in the freezer overnight
5: Then take out of the freezer
6: Finally you have your results of what you made.
Task 3: Draw on a piece of A4 paper the 6 steps that you will use to test the amount of salt in water before freezing. When we are making drawings in science it needs to be labelled clearly, kept tidy and named. Once you have completed the drawing it must be photographed and uploaded to your blog.
In your drawing you will use:
- Beakers
- Water
- Measuring spoons or cups
- Salt

Hornby High School Community
Community Promotions
Team Projects
Team Projects
You need to come up with an action plan for your project.
You need to clearly explain the following:
- Who is benefiting this?
The Hornby High School students
-What are you doing for them?
I want to organize some fun activities for out of school activities as a school group.
-How are you going to achieve this?
By encouraging students and asking if they want to do out of school activities as a school group
-What resources or support do you need to complete this project?
We might need some equipment and other resources for playing some sports, and we need full
support from both teachers and students, and we might need transport and we might need to ask
students what they want to do.

Hornby High School Community
I have joined the Hornby High School Community because i love doing activities around Hornby High School.
We are doing Community Impact Projects. My group is the Hornby High School Community.
I am really interested about what kind of activities we can do as a school group out of school.
I think we can achieve this idea by coming up with different kind of sports, and games we do not play at school, and getting some people to help.
